Paying a fine for a traffic violation in Turkey online

Как проверить и оплатить штраф за нарушение правил дорожного движения в Турции онлайн? А что будет, если не оплатить?

We have already written about the need to timely pay for toll roads. However, you also need to remember to pay fines for traffic violations on time. The earlier you pay for them, the cheaper it will cost you.

It is no secret that the Turkish police rarely stop foreigners (although it happens). However, this does not mean that you cannot be assessed a fine. In Turkey, a system of traffic cameras has been installed on the roads. If you violate, there is a good chance that your violation will be recorded and you will be assessed a fine.

How soon do I have to pay a traffic fine in Turkey?

In Turkey, I am not only a photographer (see my portfolio), but also a tourist. That’s why I travel around Turkey often and a lot. And, unfortunately, I have already violated the traffic rules once. Good thing I knew how to check fines and checked them periodically. This allowed me to pay the fine at a discount.

Initially, the fine is assessed with a 25% discount. (And in my case, the fine was 888 Turkish liras, but with a discount it was 600 Turkish liras). You have 15 days to pay the fine with a discount.

If the fine was not paid within this period, you will have to pay the full amount.

What happens if you do not pay the full amount we do not know. According to rumors, the car can be taken to the impound lot. But anyway, Turkish police officers have tablets. So that you once again are not stopped on the road and do not “make you nervous,” it is better to pay fines on time.

How to check traffic fines in Turkey?

So, you can check traffic fines for cars with foreign number plates on this site. If you are not in Turkey, you may need to connect via VPN first and select the country Turkey. We wrote about which VPN works best in Turkey in this article.

First of all, you need to enter the bottom right button of the six: Foreign Vehicle Payments (this translates to “payments for vehicles with foreign license plates”).

You will get a pop-up window, in the upper field (Plaka No) you have to enter the license plate number ( in Latin alphabet!!! ) and overwrite the verification code, in the bottom field.

Checking traffic fines in Turkey

If you are good, you will be shown a pop-up window with the message “No debt found for given plate number”, which translates as “No debt for given plate number”.

No fines for traffic violations

It will be a little worse if a new page opens instead of a pop-up window. On this page will be a list of your violations and the amount to be paid.

Penalty for a traffic violation in Turkey

How do I know what traffic violation I was fined for?

Unfortunately, on the site you can not find details – where and for what violation the fine was assessed.

For example, in our case, by clicking on the link we see two fields. The Debt Description field is blank. And the field “Organization number” – here is an incomprehensible number 229.

What is it? What was that for? When is it? It’s not clear…

This is because you can’t put your information in the public domain.

In order to find out when and for what the fine was assessed, you need to contact the police. In the Facebook group Ukrainians in Antalya we were advised to go to the department of automobile problems: “To the right-hand side of the big courthouse there is a department that deals with car problems.” We didn’t go there, but this is probably the place.

At the same time, the Ukrainians in the group do not recommend wasting time in finding out. They say you won’t get much information anyway. As an example, we were given a description of the place where the offense was recorded: “KONYAALTI BULVARI ÜZERİ KEMER İSTİKAMETİNE ANTALYA” (Konyaaltı Boulevard towards Kemer, Antalya).

Still, we’ll go to the police. If we have time and inclination, we will write our results here ))

When do I pay a fine for a traffic violation?

I recommend that you pay the fine as soon as possible.

First, there is a 25% discount for the first 15 days. If you don’t pay within 15 days, there is no discount.

We wrote above that there is no way to understand in the system where and when an offense was committed. Therefore, it is better to pay as soon as you see the fine.

And if you don’t pay a traffic ticket, what happens?

As one of the groups said, “If you don’t pay, it’s okay: at most, the traffic police will stop you on the road and take you to the Maidan fine. The driver and the passengers will be safely transported to the nearest bus station.

So much for black humor.

How to pay a fine?

It’s easy to pay. You can do it on your own. But, just in case, I will give an example of the sequence of actions that I did.

So, first you need to tick the fines you want to pay. Then press “Öde”.

Choice of traffic tickets to pay in Turkey

First there will be a warning that there will be payment of allocated fines for a car with foreign license plates. To confirm, press the “Evet” button (Turkish for “Yes”).

On the next page, select “Kart” (credit card) from the drop-down menu.

On the page that opens, enter your bank card details.

There’s a strange peculiarity here! The system does not accept payment of traffic fines from a card issued by a Turkish bank. Therefore, you can only enter a foreign credit card number! If your foreign card is expired or lost, you should ask a friend to pay.

Why is this done? It’s not clear.

After confirmation by your bank, this page will open, where on a light green background says that the collection of traffic fines is successful.

Warning! Be sure to download and save/print the PDF document (red “Alındı İndir” button)!

Even though it says below the button that you can re-download this document, I couldn’t find such a section on this site.

What to do after paying the fine?

Of course, order a photo shoot with me! After all, Turkey is a very beautiful and colorful country. There are so many amazingly beautiful places in and around Antalya, where I live. This is the old city of Kaleici, and the amazing ruins of ancient cities, and the beautiful sea, and the deepest canyons, and stunning waterfalls, and fields of lavender, irises, and much more!

And most importantly – I don’t take fines!

My work can be viewed in the portfolio section.

  1. Hello, do you know how to pay the fine, if we rented ATV and been stopped by police – they said to pay fine at the customs, at the airport we went to customs and they said it’s nothing to do with them. how can we pay from abroad now?

    • Hello Kamile,
I do not know why the police office told you to go to the customs.
      – If the rented ATV was on Turkish license plate, it has nothing to do with the customs and in case of fine you will get it from the rental company (if not already charged to your credit card).
      – If the rented ATV was on foreign license plate (which I doubt a lot), then the issue with customs shall be managed by the owner of ATV (not by you).
In any case, with lack of details I cannot provide you with a reliable comment. Check your fine document.

  2. Hi. I’m from the UK and got a speeding ticket on my motorcycle last year. Unfortunately the ticket got wet through and was unreadable so I couldn’t pay it.
I’ll be ridding through Turkey again this year. Will I have to pay the fine when I cross the boarder???
    Thanks

    • Hello Tony,
You have to pay the ticket BEFORE you cross the border. To avoid difficulties at the border I recommend to pay it online before you start your journey. You do not need your ticket for that. You only need license plate of your vehicle. Link to the web-site is available above in this article: https://dijital.gib.gov.tr/ (Select “Foreign Vehicle”). Please not that sometimes your card may be not accepted. Just try to do it in another day, preferably during Turkish work hours.

    • Yes. At the above web site you can view all your registered violations of traffic rules.
However, the web site does not show violations of customs rules. Customs fines are only available from customs or during the occasional police check.

  3. i am trying to pay for a speeding violationt ticket , but asking me for a turkish id number / tin number

    • That happens, when you choose the wrong web site section. You must choose the icon with “FOREIGN VEHICLE” (YABANCI PLAKALI ARAÇ ÖDEMELERİ). There you are not requested to enter any Turkish ID numbers.
