Officially, Turkey is trying to remain neutral on the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war in order to provide a negotiating platform between Ukraine and Russia (which has not really worked out). However, in many points, Turkey provides little additional benefits for Ukrainians.
Yes, Turkey does not give unconditional residence permit, insurance, free tickets, as many of our friendly European countries do (mostly those that have been threatened by invasion). Nevertheless, at some points we see that the Turkish government is not indifferent to our plight.
Important benefits have also been introduced for cars that you should be aware of:
ENTRY PERMISSION BEYOND 185 DAYS RULE
If the citizens of Ukraine at the time of entry into Turkey by car have been outside the customs territory of Turkey for less than 185 days in the last year (i.e. they do not meet the standard entry requirement mentioned above), then after February 24, 2022, when the Russo-Ukrainian war began, they will still be granted a temporary import permit for 90 days. If, after this period, the war and emergency continues, there will be an extension for an additional 90 days. To do this, the holder of the permit (the person who imported the car), must apply to the nearest customs office. Source: Question #1 on this page.
In other words, if a person has been in Turkey for more than half a year, he/she loses the right to bring a car into the country. This rule has now been cancelled for Ukrainians.
AUTOMATIC RENEWAL OF PERMIT
The Turkish government automatically extends the permit to all Ukrainian cars (except for cars owned by legal entities). The last such extension was published in December 2023 and it automatically extends all Ukrainian cars until 30 June 2024.
In other words, even if the deadline for your permit is approaching, or the 730 days from the date of importation of the car, you can still continue to use your car until the specified period.
Please check these deadlines with Customs. For example, in Antalya, at the customs office, which is located in Liman, there is always a fresh circular hanging under the glass, where you can read the latest date (in the photo the date is highlighted in yellow).
Automatic renewal implies that you don’t even need to visit the customs office to renew it.
As for automobiles that belong to legal entities, things are not so clear here. On the one hand, the circular in the photo does not seem to indicate that it applies only to personal cars. It says about the cars imported and used for personal use. But the law does not prohibit us from importing company cars for personal use. However, we have come across the fact that different customs officers have different opinions on this matter. Since you do not want to go to court and you will not sue them, it is better to go to the customs office to resolve each such issue individually.
There is another possible way to resolve the issue of import and renewal of a company car. To do this, you need your company to rent you its car. You can read more here.
